Over 100 years of keeping the neighborhood's pets healthy and happy.

1917

The Beginning.

Dr. William P. Collins opened the practice at 2130 P Street NW in Dupont Circle, originally providing carriage trade services for the horses that traveled the streets of Washington, D.C.

Post-WWI

A New Era.

Following the war, Dr. Collins transitioned the practice to a dedicated small animal clinic, marking the beginning of a century-long commitment to the health of D.C.'s dogs, cats, and exotics.

The 1950's

Breaking Barriers.

Upon retirement, Dr. Collins sold the practice to Dr. Jean S. Goudy. A 1942 graduate of the University of Toronto's veterinary school, Dr. Goudy started practicing at a time when fewer than 120 female veterinarians worked in the United States. She later became a charter member of the D.C. Academy, helping advance continuing education for veterinarians throughout the region.

1969-1987

A Respected Legacy.

Dr. JoAnne S. O'Brien purchased the practice in 1969 and guided it through nearly two decades of growth and service. A renowned Chow Chow breeder, and 1952 graduate of the University of Minnesota, she was among the first two women to earn a veterinary degree from the school.

1987

A Community Cornerstone.

Dr. O'Brien passed the torch to Dr. Lynne D. Cabaniss, who would go on to become a trusted pillar of the community for nearly four decades, caring for generations of D.C. pets and families.

Current Day

The Modern Partnership.

Dr. Kristen Fischer takes the helm, blending this incredible century-old history with the future of veterinary medicine.

To ensure every patient receives our full, undivided attention, pets are generally seen by appointment. We understand that life can be unpredictable, so exceptions may be made on a case by case basis depending on the urgency of the situation and our current schedule.

The Annual Check-Up

To provide the most thorough care possible, we recommend a full head-to-tail physical exam at least once a year. For our senior pets, twice-yearly exams can help us identify subtle changes before they become bigger problems. Be sure to bring any previous medical records or health journals to your pet's checkups, and let us know about any changes in their behavior, habits, or overall health.

Beyond Our Walls

Our goal is to be your primary advocate for your pet's health. In some circumstances, we will refer you to a specialist who has advanced expertise in areas such as internal medicine or surgery. If that time comes, we will provide trusted recommendations, share your pet's medical records, and help guide you through the next steps to support a seamless transition of care.
